A wildlife belief has raised the £1m wanted to remodel the arable land into a brand new nature reserve.
Suffolk Wildlife Belief mentioned the cash has allowed it to purchase the land for Martlesham Wild, on the banks of the River Deben.
Beforehand an natural arable farm, the almost 300-acre website will likely be left fallow to “create an area by which nature can get well”, the belief mentioned.
It added it was “thrilled” communities had come collectively to lift funds.
The belief mentioned Martlesham Wilds can be a “substantial new nature reserve” .
“Our imaginative and prescient… is to create an area by which nature can get well – to permit wilder habitats to return and develop into houses to species similar to curlew, avocet and redshank, in addition to reptiles, mammals and invertebrates,” it mentioned.
It’s hoped that as hawthorn, blackthorn, gorse and wild rose set up on the dry sandy soils, they are going to assist rising flocks of linnets and yellowhammers and small mammals will “thrive within the dense undergrowth”.
The belief hopes the change will encourage grass snakes, sluggish worms and customary lizards to develop into the brand new areas of habitat and that the “wilded” land will develop into a part of a “linked panorama” of historical woodland, scrub, grassland and saltings, linked by the River Deben.
